Reels and Ainsworth logo from Dragon Lines online slot game.

From Australian game developer Ainsworth Game Technology comes the fun and exciting Dragon Lines online slot – a 5-reel, 100-payline casino slot game with an Asian-inspired theme. With reels covered in beautiful and iconic Chinese imagery, you’ll be transported back to Ancient China while you spin these vibrant reels.

Game overview

If you’ve ever seen a Chinese festival, then you’ll know what to expect from Dragon Lines. Carnival dragons, paper lanterns, and yin/yang symbols adorn the reels against a classic red background. The only difference is that you might want to hear a little more of the sounds of China, but more on that later.
Dragon Lines is a slot with a 5×3 reel format, 100 paylines, and the chance to win up to 100x your stake, but can it separate itself from the myriad of other online slot games out there? Well, that’s what we aim to discover in our review – keep reading to find out.

How to play

Symbols, reels and buttons for Dragon Lines online slot game.

The gameplay in Dragon Lines is about as straightforward as it gets. This is great for players who like to keep things simple but might seem a little lackluster to those looking for a game with a ton of bells and whistles.

Simply place your bets using the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons at the bottom of the screen, where you can adjust the number of lines you’re playing on and the value of your bet. Then simply hit the Spin button to get those reels going!

The “total bet” is the number of lines multiplied by the value of the bet, so a bet of $0.01 across 100 paylines is effectively a $1 bet (which is the minimum bet for this casino slot game). Once play is initiated, the Spin button becomes a Stop button, which will stop the reels from spinning if you don’t have time for spinning reels.

There is also a gray Auto button just above the Spin button, which allows players to access the settings for the autoplay feature. Here you can set the number of spins that will automatically play if that’s your thing. Keep in mind, though, that there are no options to set win/loss limits, so keep a close eye on your bankroll if the autoplay is spinning the reels for you.

Graphics and soundtrack

The most important selling points for online slots, particularly video slots, are the graphics, the soundtrack, and the animations. While Dragon Lines certainly has all these things, it doesn’t exactly excel at all of them.

But where Dragon Lines does exceptionally well is in the visuals department. The background is a swirl of red that reminds one of the dancing dragons found at Chinese festivals, and a beautiful golden border cradles the 5×3 reels and their brilliant symbols.

There are the classic playing-card symbols: 9, 10, J, Q, K, and A, and then there are the more theme-specific symbols. The wild symbol is represented by a dragon, the scatter symbol is represented by a flaming yin/yang, and then there are Chinese coins, paper lanterns, drums, and gold ingots which make up the rest of the higher-paying symbols.

There is, unfortunately, no music that plays in the base game: you simply hear the sounds of the reels spinning when you play and a few gong sounds and jingles that play when you score wins on any of the lines. The only time there is any music is when you land 3 scatter symbols and enter the free spins feature of the game.

If the developer of Dragon Lines had put as much effort into the audio as it did into the visuals, we’d consider it one of the best of the more simple casino slot games out there, but for players who like to listen to their own music while they spin, it might be ideal.

Features

Information on paylines for Dragon Lines online slot game.

The main quirk, and the main gameplay mechanic overall, is the fact that Dragon Lines features 100 paylines that you can hit across the 5×3 reel format. Now, because this video slot actually comes from a land-based background, the RTP (return to player) is unusually low at 94.30%. On top of that, you’ll need a decent budget to get going because the minimum bet is $1 per spin.
This doesn’t mean that the game’s a super hungry dragon, though, because with stacked wilds as a feature, you can expect wins to come from anywhere across the 100 paylines. This can earn you some decent returns per spin if you’re lucky.

Bonuses and jackpots

For players expecting a little more than just the basics, you’re out of luck, we’re afraid, as there are no mini-games, no glamorous bonus rounds, and there’s no gamble feature – in fact, the only bonus feature is quite basic and comes in the form of 10 free spins triggered by the yin/yang scatter symbols.

You need to hit 3 or more scatter symbols to trigger the free spins game mode, where you’ll get 10 free goes. In addition to that, hitting 3 scatter symbols will score you twice the value of your bet per spin, while landing 5 scatters will allow you to earn 100x your bet per spin! So keep trying for that 5 scatter combo!
